Steelhead Fly-Fishing Net

Welcome to the Wayward Woodshop here in beautiful Pennsylvania. Usually, we’re putting out our line of Fat Jake and Big Dipper nets, but this time around, we’re going to take a classic and make it even more special. For this client, we’re making a custom version of one of our wooden fly-fishing nets, complete with an image of a big trout engraved on the side of the net.

This particular Steelhead Trout is just one of the many fish in my line of trout-themed wooden fly-fishing nets. This fishy design was engraved on a Fat Jake Classic, one of our flagship nets here at Wayward Trading Post. As you may know, each one in our classic line of nets has a walnut handle and cherry accents, marrying into a beautiful hickory hoop, complete with a sleek walnut pinstripe. We always source our wood locally and make each and every net by hand.

Once the design is approved by the client and drawn, we upload them into a laser engraver, making sure the size and framing is just right in order to give the custom wooden net a classic, clean look. We always get requests to put animals on our nets, but something about putting a fish on this handmade wooden net just feels right. My personal favorite part is the way the scales of the steelhead trout go all the way down the wooden handle.
